The transfer window may have closed long ago, but there are still plenty of players around Europe trying to find themselves a new club.
Vurnon Anita is one such player. The midfielder departed Leeds United at the beginning of September, with the club announcing the two parties had agreed to a mutual termination.
It brought an end to a miserable two-year spell at Elland Road for Anita, who joined the club from Newcastle United back in 2017 but only managed 22 appearances during that time.
Maccabi Haifa were interested in him following his departure from Leeds, but that move never happened, and he’s since returned to the Netherlands.
Anita came through the youth ranks at the Eredivisie club, going on to make over 150 appearances for the first team and win two titles and a KNVB Cup before a £7m move to Newcastle in 2012.
And now he’s back where he began, with Voetbal Zone reporting Anita has been spotted training with the club’s youth squad in a video published by Ajax TV.
There’s no mention of whether Ajax are looking at a possible deal for their former player, although that seems unlikely given his lack of game time at Leeds in recent years.
This is more than likely his old club trying to help him out and get his career back on track after what can only be described as two wasted years at Leeds.
