André Onana’s terrible start at Manchester United is getting quite some reaction in Italy, where they saw him shining for Inter Milan before the Old Trafford move.

Since the Red Devils’ loss to Galatasaray on Tuesday, many local outlets have been sharing stories wondering what happened to the goalkeeper in the past few months.

We now get to see an interesting piece from Calcio Mercato, who today feature an interesting interview with a mental coach.

Their piece is quite long, and Onana got a mentioned right at the start of the conversation. It all began with Marco Marchese explaining why players need that kind of professional.

“Because if you really have the vision and the concrete desire to want to achieve an important and ambitious dream, a person to help manage your emotions and show the way forward I think is helpful,” Marco Marchese told Calcio Mercato.

“I hardly have a fixed plan, I work with goals; to show that I also believe in the person in front of me: if he fails, two of us will have failed.”

Then asked to give an example, he went straight for the Manchester United goalkeeper, insisting his current situation can be fixed.

“Onana was a very strong goalkeeper last year, among the three best in Serie A; he certainly hasn’t become poor in a short time now. But what has happened to him in these months? Now he is no longer able to cope with emotion, fear has taken over and he needs someone to help him deal with the situation.”

After seeing David De Gea leave at the end of his contract, Manchester United spent €52.5m to sign Onana from Inter Milan this summer.

In ten appearances for the Red Devils so far, the goalkeeper conceded 18 goals, only keeping three clean sheets so far.
