Unable to fully impose himself during his first season at Manchester United, Raphaël Varane is finding far more consistency during the current campaign.

The defender missed a number of games because of injuries and Covid, meaning that he never quite performed at his best.

The change of managers also didn’t help, with Ralf Rangnick taking over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer midway through the campaign without ever having a desire to stay there long-term.

The arrival of Erik ten Hag, however, has allowed the Manchester United defender to play with more continuity, which he will hope helps him throughout the season and the upcoming World Cup.

Currently with the France squad during the international break, the player spoke to the media about his start to the campaign at club level, relayed by RMC Sport.

He said: “I’m very happy. I’m enjoying it a lot. Last season was irregular for me. This start to the season, we’re getting good results, taking pleasure in playing, in fighting together. I also came to England to live emotions like that, and every game is a battle, a challenge. I like it. Being able to play regularly, having had a full pre-season, allows me to feel good on the pitch.”

That’s exactly what Manchester United fans will be wanting to hear, as there were a lot of expectations following the Frenchman’s big transfer from Real Madrid.

He didn’t live up to them last season, with very few of the Old Trafford team standing out overall, but that has now changed, and all will be hoping for the good run of form under Ten Hag to continue.
