Earlier today we covered claims from Catalan newspaper Sport that Gareth Bale, should he leave Real Madrid, would like a move to Manchester United. However, his club would prefer to sell him to Chelsea instead, having better relations with the Blues.

It seemed like some Catalan sport media stirring, but Marca are on a similar page in their Wednesday edition.

The Spanish newspaper state that the two clubs mentioned have ‘shown most interest’ in the Welshman, and that’s giving Madrid hope that there’s still a big market for Bale in the Premier League.

For Chelsea, the move could involve Eden Hazard going the other way, and similar is said about Christian Eriksen and Tottenham.

For Manchester United it would be a straight cash deal, although a rumour will likely emerge at some stage which involves a player… maybe Alexis Sanchez, who has been linked with a move to Madrid in the past.

The confidence in Spain over a big fee being available could be misplaced. The Manchester United boat may have already sailed on by, with Jose Mourinho previously making it clear he was keen but Bale would have needed to want the transfer as well.

And that’s where the biggest problem for Madrid may be.

Bale has a contract until 2022 at Real Madrid and seems quite happy with his life.
