Manchester United’s hopes of signing Raphael Varane have been handed another major boost, with Real Madrid open to listening to offers for him this summer.

That’s according to AS, who say the Spanish giants will listen to approaches should the player make it clear he wants to leave.

Varane’s deal at the Bernabeu expires next year, and so far, he’s not signed an extension, despite Madrid being keen to see him stay long-term.

It’s been made clear that should he not sign a new deal, then he will be sold so Madrid can avoid losing him on a free next year, and that is where Manchester United come into it.

They have long been linked with the Frenchman and continue to be named as suitors this summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to add a partner for Harry Maguire to his team.

Varane is thought of as the dream signing, and it’s been claimed in Spain that United are willing to go the distance to bring him to the club.

Now they’ve been presented with something of a signal that they should pursue the move, with AS explaining Madrid will sell this summer if they need to, with it stated ‘under no circumstances’ will they let him go on a free in 2022.

They believe there is still time to ‘cash in on him’ in case he asks to leave, a scenario which is becoming increasingly more likely.

Varane is said to be ‘seriously considering’ a move away this summer as he believes it is time for him to try another league, something he doesn’t want to leave until later in his career.

Thus, if he tells them ‘definitively’ that he wants out, Real Madrid will listen to offers, opening the door for Manchester United to finally get a player who has long been on their list of desires.
