For the past few days, Manchester United have been credited with interest in a few left-backs, including Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso, after Luke Shaw joined Tyrell Malacia in the treatment room.

The Blues signed the 25-year-old from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and he featured 33 times last season. He’s now behind Ben Chilwell and Ian Maatsen in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

According to Marca, the Chelsea fullback is the main target for Manchester United to replace Shaw.

It’s claimed the Spaniard’s willingness to leave Chelsea and Erik ten Hag’s interest has brought the positions of the two clubs ‘very close’ in the last few hours.

In fact, the newspaper states Manchester United and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are ‘about to reach an agreement’ for the Spaniard’s loan transfer.

Marca say the Old Trafford club will pay a £3m loan fee to Chelsea and with both teams now ‘close to signing an agreement’, the report suggests the operation could be closed today.

Cucurella’s signing could see Manchester United allow Álvaro Fernández leave on another loan deal. The report adds Getafe, Las Palmas and Granada are fighting to sign the latter.
