While the French media believe Paul Pogba actually wants to renew at Manchester United, with his eye on the richest contract in Premier League history, the Italian media are very much in the opposing camp.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the footballer could return to Italy, and would be ready to make some sacrifices to achieve that goal.

Firstly, they look at how he has ‘rarely found a smile’ at Manchester United since returning there, which ‘promptly gave strength to Turin’s good memories’.

Because of this, he has ‘maintained contact with all his teammates at the time, especially Paulo Dybala’, leading him to ‘open the door to the return with a clear mandate to his agent Mino Raiola: “At the top of my list is Juve”’.

While Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested, ‘the player’s will is the clearest proof’ that a deal can be struck with Juventus under ‘the right conditions’.

By that, they mean ‘the French midfielder is willing to reduce his salary’ to meet the Serie A club’s expectations, ‘especially if the new contract were to be at least on a three-year basis, that is, until 2025’.

Helping all this is the ‘growth decree’ in Italy, that allows a 50% discount on taxes for employees from abroad, but that could change in the near future, as the ‘government is evaluation how to re-propose this rule in 2022’.

What could be a problem for Juventus, in a similar fashion to Manchester United, however, is their potential lack of Champions League next season if they don’t improve their results as they currently sit 8th in the league, already four points off Atalanta in fourth.

We’ll have to see what comes of all this, but Gazzetta seem set on pushing the line that Pogba wants to return, and it won’t stop here, that’s for sure.
