Manchester United and Chelsea have RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba on their transfer radar, according to Foot Mercato.
The Lyon academy graduate made a switch to the Bundesliga side last summer and has been a regular in his debut season, making 37 appearances in all competitions.
His displays helped him make his debut for France last October, and also caught the attention of other clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.
Since moving to Germany, the centre-back has impressed with his physique, ability to win duels, positioning with and without the ball and carrying out the ball ‘neatly’. Foot Mercato say the latter two are the areas where he’s clearly improved this season.
The 21-year-old could be in contention for the Paris Olympics, while a few clubs have included his name in the short list. This is when Manchester United and Chelsea are tagged.
It’s explained the Red Devils have been monitoring him ‘for weeks’, and the Blues have recently started taking note of his performances.
Lukeba’s deal lasts until 2028 and Foot Mercato state it includes a €70m clause that will come into effect from next year. Leipzig, for their part, don’t intend to part ways with him in the next window.
This all feels like an effort to hype the player, using United and Chelsea in the process.
