Spain’s El Confidencial claimed a few days ago that Tottenham ended a summer pursuit of Isco because the player was asking for too high a salary.

It was reported Isco considered joining the club and Real Madrid would also have been happy to agree to a loan, but on the condition Isco extended his contract with the club.

El Confidencial went on to say the chance of a deal ‘evaporated in a short space of time’ because of Isco’s high demands, and Spurs answered ‘soon and negatively’ to what was being asked for.

Since then Manchester United claims have started. The Daily Mirror started it off by saying Jose Mourinho’s club are considering a January move for Isco.

Manchester United are said to be ‘weighing up’ a move for the player in the next transfer window.

That has obviously inpired the Spanish media.

Spanish newspaper AS claim ‘Isco would enjoy minutes a great team that needs a creative player like him’.

Don Balon, who have over the past year published some of the most ludicrous stories we’ve ever seen, say Manchester United are prepared to spend €30m, but Real Madrid want €40m.

In November 2015, we covered a couple of Don Balon’s most ridiculous Manchester Untied claims at the time: ‘At the weekend Don Balon said Manchester United wanted to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic from PSG. It was claimed the club were willing to pay €80m for the Swedish international, but PSG were asking for €100m.

Ibrahimovic is 34 years of age. Ibrahimovic has a contract with PSG which ends in June.

This stuff is next level transfer rumour nonsense but was lapped up without any caveats by The Metro. Also lapped up by The Metro have been a batch of other outlandish Don Balon claims over the past few days, including that Real Madrid want Memphis Depay.

Don Balon claimed that Real Madrid’s first offer for Depay would be €65m, but that Manchester United would ask for something around €90m.’

We won’t take Don Balon seriously on Isco to Manchester United seriously until they say Manchester United are offering Real Madrid €100m, Rui Faria, a unicorn, and Phil Jones to be broken up and used as parts.
