Ajax star Lisandro Martínez’s transfer to Manchester United is ‘still pending’ because of the finalisation of paperwork related to the deal, according to De Telegraaf.

That’s because the Dutch club ‘play chess on two boards’ and want to present the 24-year-old’s successor as soon as possible.

Manchester United and Ajax had broadly agreed a €55m deal for the defender earlier this week. Sources from the Eredivisie winners now suggest they could get more than this figure from the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag’s side are ‘awaiting the green light’ from the Amsterdam club, who wanted one more ‘small adjustment’ in the contract. There isn’t anything to indicate when Ajax will give the green light or when they will sign the Argentina international’s replacement.

The centre-back, for his part, is ‘ready to fly’ to Manchester to undergo medical tests with the Premier League side. After that, he will sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

De Telegraaf further add if Martínez’s visa is in order, then he will fly to Australia, where Manchester United are currently going through pre-season. This would suggest the transfer could be completed soon.
