As Benfica are on their way to winning their fourth league title in a row, the price of their players is sky high.
That’s why according to Correio da Manhã on Thursday, the club will be taking the opportunity to let some of their stars go, and raise some serious cash at the end of the season.
One of these players would be Nelson Semedo, who has a €60m (about £50m) release clause and has many clubs following him.
The strongest name mentioned by Correio da Manhã is Manchester City, who would be ‘available’ to pay the clause. The newspaper also recalls other clubs who have been linked to him, such as Manchester United and Barcelona.
All the European media seem confident that Manchester City are buying fullbacks this summer, which makes sense, but there are so many names speculated that it’s hard to know who are they closest to.
Correio da Manhã’s claims seem ambitious on Benfica’s behalf, because the Portuguese media has been saying €40m should be enough to take Semedo, which seems like a fair price for Manchester City.
