Manchester City have made a formal offer for Anderlecht star Sergio Gomez as they step up their hunt for a new left-back.

That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who says Manchester City’s first offer is €7m plus €3m in bonuses.

Earlier today we covered a report from Le Soir that City had turned their attention towards Gomez after pulling out of the race for Marc Cucurella.

Pep Guardiola and co have been targeting the Brighton man for several weeks but have been unable to get a deal over the line and the Spaniard now appears set for a move to Chelsea.

That’s seen Manchester City look elsewhere and Gomez appeared to be the new target. Tavolieri provides a different stance, though.

He backs up reports of a bid and adds in numbers, stating that City have offered €7m plus €3m in bonuses to sign the 21-year-old.

That, though, is likely to be rejected by Anderlecht, who the journalist says are targeting €15m for the defender. However, according to his information, the plan is to sign Gomez and loan him to Girona, another club in the City Group network.

Whether that’s a price Manchester City are willing to pay isn’t mentioned but it’s hardly a big figure for a side with pockets as deep as theirs.

We’d expect a new bid to be lodged sooner rather than later, with this potential transfer picking up pace already.
