Manchester City are interested in the signing of Benfica youngster Diego Moreira, according to reports.

Journalist Bruno Andrade writes on Twitter that Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘targeting’ the player and have started talks for his transfer.

There are no details on how far the negotiations between Manchester City and the Eagles stand by now, although the report does make it sound like the meetings are in the early stages.

Andrade points out the good performance the 17-year-old had on Thursday, during Benfica’s 4-0 win over Lisbon rivals Sporting in the UEFA Youth League.

Despite being born in Belgium, where he started his career in Standard Liege, Moreira has Portuguese citizenship and has been playing for Benfica’s youth ranks since 2020.

With four goals and one assist in 23 appearances this season, the winger currently works to draw the attention from the Eagles’ first team.

The youngster has a contract running until 2024, and it’s still not known how much Manchester City would need to spend to take him out of Benfica.
