Claudio Bravo’s relationship with the Chilean media hasn’t been very good recently. The Manchester City goalkeeper pulled out of contention for the last national squad, which created a lot of speculation about his absence, and he’s now returned to the squad with lots of questions to be answered.

Bravo arrived in Chile yesterday for the games against Ecuador and Peru and avoided talking to reporters at the airport. Then Bravo gave an official press conference, where he explained the problems he’s been having with the media.

“I have never said that I didn’t come to the national team because of injury. The question was how was my situation in Manchester and my answer was I was there only for a few days and with an injury.

“I don’t know why the version was changed, as this was not the reason. The coaching staff and the Federation know. I don’t have to give more statements about it.

“Besides wanting to mess with me, to (create) controversies that do not exist, (the solution) is as simple as taking the plane and talking to me. Just like journalist did and changed the answer.

“We are concerned about what’s being said on Twitter, it involved me in a familiar theme. It becomes a show I don’t like, the repercussion that was caused all this time. I missed one in over 100 matches, and they put a judgment on me.”

Claudio Bravo has 106 appearances for the Chilean national team, having won two Copa Americas in the past two years.

Chile are currently in a concerning position in the South American World Cup Qualifiers, as they’re only in seventh place. Four teams get straight qualification spots, and the fifth goes to the play-offs.
