Pablo Maffeo has enjoyed a good couple of seasons on loan at FC Girona from Manchester City. Helping the club gain promotion to Spain’s top flight, the youngster then continued his development and has won fans over the La Liga season.

What happens next has been a repeated question. At just 20 years of age another season at Girona didn’t look a bad conclusion, but Maffeo’s performances have been attracting interest and there’s been rumours of VfB Stuttgart interest for a while.

Bild now report a ‘Transfer-Hammer’ and say Maffeo is set to join the German club. That’s no surprise, as a loan in the Bundesliga could help the fullback with his all-round football education.

But the German newspaper claims the transfer fee will be €9m, making this not sound like a loan at all, or at the very least making it sound like a loan with a redemption clause.

These claims are just filtering out and it would be no surprise if Manchester City have some kind of buyback clause somewhere down the line.

If they don’t, fans may not be thrilled to see such a highly rated youngster leave the club.

Bild’s website is now covering also covering it, and again make it sound very much like a permanent transfer.

Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo say there is a repurchase option.
