Anderlecht general manager Herman Van Holsbeeck has told the Belgian media he still hopes Youri Tielelmans will be with the Jupiler club next season. The 19-year-old is expected to leave Anderlecht in the summer, and has been linked with a move to Everton.
Voetbal Nieuws have reported on comments made by Van Holsbeeck when he was asked about the future of Tielemans.
The Anderlecht boss confirmed it’s their objective to keep the youngster at the club even though he’s been tracked by some major sides. Van Holsbeeck said he will hold discussions with the player’s agent in the summer.
“It is always our intention to keep Tielemans on board, but on the other hand the boy is followed by a lot of great teams. We’ll meet after the season with his entourage to see if he can remain for another year,” said the Anderlecht chief.
Tielemans has been linked with Everton for the past few years despite no firm reports of any approach or bid being made by the Merseyside club. However, the midfielder has been quizzed on a move to Everton this year, and responded positively.
At this stage of his career Tielemans needs to be playing regular football, and the Belgium international recognises playing for a club like Everton could provide him with this.
Former Anderlecht boss Marc Degryse has also advised Tielemans to join club like Everton over a move to a bigger club in Europe as he believes Ronald Koeman can give him the ideal stage to develop.
