Barcelona manager Xavi has asked the club to make a ‘last attempt’ for Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso following an injury to Pedri.

That’s according to journalist Javi Miguel, who says the deal between Tottenham and Barcelona for defender Clement Lenglet ‘could be the key’ to the potential operation.

Lo Celso has returned to Tottenham following a loan spell at Villarreal last season but does not appear to be a part of their plans moving forwards.

While manager Ange Postecoglou has shown a willingness to give everyone a chance to impress, Lo Celso is yet to feature and a departure from the club is still expected.

He’s been heavily linked with a return to Spain and particularly to Barcelona, where he is highly thought of, and they need a more creative player to complement their squad.

Their finances had seemingly made a deal almost impossible and unlikely but Miguel reports that Xavi has made it clear he is desperate for the signing and wants them to make a ‘last attempt’.

His plea comes after an injury to midfielder Pedri, who is facing up to a month on the sidelines after suffering a quadriceps injury.

Xavi clearly wants the hole he’ll leave behind filled and Lo Celso is the man he wants to do it. That, though, would seemingly be complicated and there is a belief the long gestating deal for Lenglet ‘could be the key’.

The implication is that if Tottenham get the deal they want for the defender and Barcelona relent, they would then be happy to give back in kind with a deal for Lo Celso.
