Considering the 2016 season Marcus Rashford, you would have thought he would have been in line to win the Golden Boy award, succeeding his teammate Anthony Martial.

However, with the results announced on Monday by Tuttosport, the Manchester United striker didn’t even come close to the award, as Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches ran away with it.

Picking up 20 #1 nominations from 30 possible, the former Benfica starlet accumulated 234 points, compared to Marcus Rashford 115, as the England international only managed to get three #1 nominations, none of them coming from English newspapers.

Rashford was chosen as the number one contender by Fanatik in Turkey, Komanda in Ukraine and Marca in Spain.

Elsewhere, Portuguese newspaper Record didn’t even bother putting Renato Sanches on their top five list, choosing Ousmane Dembélé as their number one choice instead.

The French winger picked up two top nominations, as did AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, while Mahmoud Dahoud, Kingsley Coman and Dele Alli (thanks to Sport Foot Magazine in Belgium) all got one.
