Quickly winning a spot in the hearts of many Manchester United fans with his eccentric yet effective performances, Eric Bailly is clearly enjoying life in the north of England following his £32m transfer from Villarreal in the summer.

Only missing games through injury or national team call-ups, the 22-year-old certainly has the trust of José Mourinho at Old Trafford, as the manager showed by selecting him for the EFL Cup final on Sunday evening.

Helping Manchester United lift the trophy after a somewhat fortuitous 3-2 win over Southampton thanks to a late Zlatan Ibrahimovic winner, the Ivory Coast international gave a quick interview to SFR Sport after the game about the previous 90 minutes and what it was like playing with the big Swede.

He said: “It wasn’t the best performance, but we had a bit more luck in front of goal. We were strong mentally despite their comeback, and we were rewarded. The most important thing is the win, and the cup.

“Having Zlatan in the team is good for me, because he can change the game at any moment. As you know, he’s a great player, and I feel lucky to get to play with him. He showed what he can do.”

The centre-back went on to explain winning the EFL Cup was personally a big boost, taking his trophy tally to two out of two so far this season, but also one for the team, with plenty of other important games to come in the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Europa League in the coming weeks.

Bailly has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United this season, picking up six yellow cards (and one red) along the way.
