Between now and the summer transfer window, Alexandre Lacazette is going to be one of the most linked away players of Ligue 1. It increasingly seems like this could be the year Lacazette leaves Lyon, and several clubs have been linked over the past few seasons.

The most recent links have seen Liverpool as one of the clubs at the forefront. There’s no doubt Jurgen Klopp needs to improve his Liverpool squad, so it could be considered natural the Anfield club will be linked.

On Monday afternoon, France’s SFR published an article covering what they believe is growing coverage in England about a potential transfer. Most interestingly for Liverpool fans, they say the Reds have a ‘small lead’ in the race to sign Lacazette.

A potential price is put at around €46m to €58m, but it seems to be a story which has got carried away with itself. Liverpool may well be interested, but the idea of them being favourites seems manufactured, at this point anyway.

ITV claimed that Liverpool had been tipped to win the race by French journalist Julien Laurens.

They linked to a Liverpool Echo article to back that up, but the Merseyside newspaper hadn’t done so. Laurens had simply speculated on BT that Liverpool could be a possible destination, along with Arsenal and Tottenham, but made it clear he didn’t know who was favourite.

If the French claims today come from that then there’s not much in it, and this is likely to be how Lacazette rumours continue.
