Man City player in ‘preferential place’ over his future – Another club ‘convinced’ to sign Pep’s man

İlkay Gündoğan’s contract expires next June and his future at Manchester City beyond this season remains unclear.

Last month, reports from Germany explained the Citizens are pushing the 32-year-old to sign a new deal.

This was backed up by the Spanish press, who insisted Barcelona are keen to make the midfielder Sergio Busquets’ successor at the Camp Nou.

Friday’s Mundo Deportivo claims the La Liga side are keeping an eye on the Manchester City star and a few other players who have their deals expiring at the end of this season.

Pep Guardiola’s man is in a ‘preferential place’ when it comes to deciding his future. If there is ‘no radical turn of events’, he will end his relationship with the Premier League winners next summer.

The Blaugrana’s interest in Gündoğan is also discussed by another Catalan newspaper, Sport.

It’s claimed Xavi Hernández is ‘convinced’ with the option to sign the Germany international, although the possibilities of bringing in one of N’Golo Kanté, Houssem Aouar, Adrien Rabiot or Fred shouldn’t be ruled out.

Both Mundo and Sport have stressed Barca are looking for low-cost/free signings in the next two windows. Gündoğan fits this bill as his contract at Manchester City expires in 2023.
