In every international break, we see the same stories coming from the Chilean press. All the outlets want to talk about the absence of Claudio Bravo in the national team, as they keep wondering if the Manchester City player will return to the squad or not.
Last week, we covered an interview with a former goalkeeper coach of La Roja who said Bravo should apologise for previous comments before thinking of playing the Copa America for Chile this year.
Now newspaper La Cuarta features an interview with Oscar Cordoba, who used to be the Colombian national team’s goalkeeper, and is now a pundit. Some of the questions were obviously about the Manchester City player, who could still return in time for the tournament.
“No one doubts his ability, but we do not know which goalkeeper we will find when he recovers from the injury,” Cordoba told La Cuarta. “First, he must be consolidated. But I know that Bravo has internal frictions in the squad with several of his teammates. I don’t know how positive it is that Rueda calls him. I believe that Rueda should not call him, it can provoke a conflict of interests and thoughts.”
“The best thing is that the manager has him ready, without forgetting, the time may come when he needs him. Rueda can’t generate a conflict for nothing. People arrive according to the needs and how the circumstances occur. However, the health of the dressing room is always better than the egos.”
Claudio Bravo has managed to annoy a chunk of people around the Chilean national team.
There’s been his spat with Arturo Vidal, and demanding that the national set-up choose a goalkeeping coach he selected, which is what led to his current international break.
