It can’t be easy for a footballer to relaunch their career at the age of 29, but that’s what Samir Nasri is attempting to do at Sevilla.

Going from expensive signing to rotation player at Manchester City, the Frenchman was pushed to one side by Pep Guardiola, despite what was publicly said, and a loan move to Sevilla materialised towards the end of the transfer window.

Starting three leagues games now since his start, after a brief period of trying to regain fitness, the forward now has a goal and an assist to his name, which the local press are very happy about.

Estadio Deportivo have an article on Monday about his performance at the weekend, which they state was the ‘only highlight’ of the game in Sevilla’s 3-1 loss to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

Jorge Sampaoli’s men didn’t have the best of times against Ernesto Valverde’s side, with Salvatore Sirigu getting sent off in the 88th minute, but Nasri’s goal, 91% pass completion and three successful dribbles gave fans something to cheer about.

There’s hope this form could continue, and with Sevilla only three points off top after six games, Nasri could become a key player for the La Liga side as the season goes on.

With no option to buy on the loan, perhaps a resurgence could help his time at Manchester City, but somehow we doubt it.
