Earlier this week, we saw the negative reaction from the Dutch press regarding Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech travelling to Russia.

The player was heavily criticised not only for visiting the country, but mostly for meeting with Quincy Promes, who’s facing Dutch charges of importing vast quantities of cocaine into the Netherlands.

It turns out that Ziyech’s visit to Russia may even have an impact on his future, according to journalist Mike Verweij (via FC Update).

“You saw what happened at Spartak. He had to pose with a Spartak shirt with Ziyech on the back. That was a so-called joke, as if he’s making a transfer in that direction. He should not be used for that at all.”

FC Update points out that Ziyech ‘seems to have no future’ at Chelsea, and with Ajax being linked as one of his potential destinations, it’s said that this visit to Russia may have harmed any chances he had to return to the Eredivisie giants.

“I think that this kind of action makes it very difficult to get him back and I think that Ajax should not want that.”

Ziyech had less than 1000 minutes for Chelsea this season, only getting three assists in 24 appearances.

The Blues spent €40m to sign him from Ajax in 2020, and he was expected to rejoin the Amsterdam club for much less this summer.

Now in case that trip really impacts his future, he better find another destination. His contract with Chelsea runs until 2025.
