Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has admitted their chances of securing an unprecedent quadruple are looking good after the win over Villarreal.
The Reds beat the Spanish side 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash at Anfield last night, meaning they have one foot firmly in the final as far as most are concerned.
Liverpool currently competing on all fronts as they have already secured a place in the FA Cup final after a win over Manchester City and won the Carabao Cup with victory over Chelsea.
They are also currently second in the Premier League and just a point behind Manchester City in first, having chased down Pep Guardiola’s side to set up an exciting end to the season.
It means they could end the season with success on four fronts, something that hasn’t been done in the history of English football.
Everyone at Liverpool is doing their best to temper those expectations and bring down the pressure, but Van Dijk admits that things are going extremely well at this moment in time.
“We can’t deny we are in a good phase, the club and the players,” MSN report him saying to BeIn Sports after the defeat of Villarreal.
“Also, if you look at how fit the squad is. It looks very good, there’s no denying that. But at the moment, all we have left is the League Cup.
“We want to achieve more big things with this group and realise that we have that in us. We are in the league and not just to compete.’
“Before the season, maybe nobody expected us to be in the race for all the top prizes at this moment, but we are still here. We look at it from game to game, and today was a very important one.”
