Chelsea allowed Levi Colwill to join Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan deal after he impressed during his temporary stay at Huddersfield Town.

The 19-year-old has managed over 100 minutes of action across three matches with the Seagulls, which includes 90 minutes in the EFL Cup win over Forest Green.

Graham Potter was in charge at The Amex when Brighton took the defender. The coach became Thomas Tuchel’s successor at Chelsea last month.

The England U21 international will have to return to Stamford Bridge after his loan spell at Brighton. He has a contract with the Blues until 2025, but his future remains uncertain.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who explain the west London club don’t intend to lose one of the best young prospects.

Colwill’s relationship with Potter is ‘strong and mutual’, but his desire to have more game time next season is great, either ‘in London or somewhere else’.

Reports have said Chelsea are looking for a new central defender and this suggests Colwill will have a hard time having prominence in London. Therefore, there is a possibility of the player seeking a permanent exit from his parent club.

AC Milan and Napoli looked at him in the last window, while Atalanta took clear steps for the Chelsea owned man. His profile continues to be appreciated in Serie A, but for now, Colwill has to find his way into Roberto De Zerbi’s plans at Brighton.
