Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes is on the radar of several clubs, and he’s confirmed he doesn’t rule out a move abroad.

Howedes in recent days has been linked with a move to Liverpool, due to Jurgen Klopp becoming frustrated trying to sign Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool have been linked with the Dutchman throughout the summer window, but his club are refusing to sell.

According to the Guardian‘s interpretation of reports from Germany, Klopp may switch his attention to Howedes, and could look to take advantage of his situation at Schalke.

Howedes has been stripped of the captaincy with the German side, leading to speculation he could leave before the deadline.

With Liverpool’s woes in defence during the opening game against Watford Klopp could look to bring in a central defender, and Howedes’ comments are likely to give the German coach encouragement.

Sportbild have reported on comments made by Howedes when asked about his future: “I’ve always said that I can exclude an option of transfer within German league, but I can basically imagine a transfer abroad. However, I don’t mean that it would have to be right now.”

Howedes added. “It’s still in hands of my adviser (agent), who’ll check all the offers and answer questions.”

Sport Bild says there is an offer from Inter Milan and an English club, but they don’t go as far to name Liverpool, or anyone else, as the interested Premier League side.
