Last week, we covered the Portuguese media revealing Liverpool interest in signing Sporting defender Jeremiah St. Juste.

Newspaper Record claimed that the Reds watched the player’s performance against Arsenal in the Europa League, were thrilled with what they saw, and even contacted his staff to chat about a future transfer.

With St Juste being one of the highlights in Sporting’s campaign, he now spoke to UEFA (via O Jogo) to discuss the qualities which have been hyping him up.

The player was asked about his amazing speed, which Liverpool certainly saw in his crucial interceptions against Arsenal, and claimed that this feature probably comes from his mother.

“My speed? I inherited it from my mother, she was an athlete and was always very fast. However, I also trained a lot for that, mainly my strength to maintain that speed.”

St. Juste also talked about other qualities he has, and that’s probably a great introduction for Reds fans who want to know more about him.

“My focus, aggressiveness, my reading of the game, being a leader, being technically skilled. I like to go out and play even playing as a centre-back, it’s all part of my game.”

The defender joined Sporting in a €10m move from Mainz last summer. At that time, he had been linked to a few Premier League sides, but the Lions still managed to win that race.

It’s only now that Liverpool have started being linked to the 26-year-old, and the Reds would undoubtedly have to spend a lot more than that €10m to take him from the Lisbon side.
