With the news that Joe Gomez could be out for a while and the severe injury sustained by Virgil Van Dijk, Liverpool are desperately going to need a centre-back in the January transfer window.
They’ve been linked with a number of names over the past few weeks, including Schalke 04’s Ozan Kabak, but it appears they could also turn their eye to Holland, where Ajax have a player who has caught their attention.
His name is Perr Schuurs, and the 20-year-old has been one of the main starters under Erik ten Hag this season, totalling seven appearances in the Eredivisie so far.
Compared to Matthijs de Ligt due to his size and ability, the defender has many admirers, including Milan and Inter in Italy, but also Liverpool.
This is according to Calciomercato, who explain that both the Serie A sides will be looking to bolster their defences in January, as will the Reds.
It’s explained Jürgen Klopp’s side have a ‘strong interest’ in Schuurs, even if Ajax ‘are not currently considering his transfer’.
Under contract until 2022, next summer could be the best chance to get him, especially if he doesn’t renew before then.
Currently valued at €30m, that price could end up dropping, especially in the Covid-19 era, so it’s one worth keeping an eye on in the next few weeks, because if Liverpool are desperate enough, they could end up going all out to get a centre-back as soon as possible, and money will be spent.
It’s worth pointing out Schuurs is a long-term target of the Reds, having been linked with him back in 2017 when he was at Fortuna Sittard.
