One of the big deadline day moves in Europe was Javier Hernández leaving West Ham United to join Sevilla.

The Spanish side moved quickly to take the Mexican forward to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan when sporting director Monchi decided late on they needed another forward.

It’s not Hernández’s first stint in Spain, having spent a season on loan at Real Madrid from Manchester United back in 2014.

Nonetheless, it seems one of his old West Ham teammates, Liverpool goalkeeper Adrián, was quick to recommend he join Sevilla when the pair spoke ahead of his move.

“I am bético, but not antisevillista,” the goalkeeper told Canal Sur.

“I told him that he was going to a very good club that have done well in recent years and that he is going to enjoy the city.

“What are we going to say about the Sevillians… I have told him where he can live. Not that have we been able to talk much because he has gone directly to the national team (Mexico).”

Hernández’s move to Sevilla was only made possible because the Mexican elected to take a pay cut to make it happen.

Indeed, Monchi has openly discussed his surprise at the striker’s willingness to reduce his wages to help facilitate the transfer.

Both parties will be hoping Hernández’s eagerness to play for Sevilla translates to goals on the pitch, but the Liverpool stopper does not doubt his former West Ham teammate will come good.

“If they give him confidence… that’s like all players. He is a fighter, committed and professional,” he added.

“I enjoyed playing with him. He had a good contract at West Ham and made an effort to move over there (Sevilla).”
