Bought from Eintracht Frankfurt late last summer for €30m, Napoli’s Jesper Lindstrøm allegedly also had the chance of going to Liverpool.

He chose to head to Serie A instead, but the decision to move to Italy has backfired massively, as the 24-year-old is struggling to have any sort of positive impact this season.

This is covered by Corriere del Mezzogiorno, who cover some of the failed transfers from Napoli this season, and put the former Liverpool target at the top.

They recall the Denmark international ‘declared that he chose Napoli over Liverpool’ in order to play more, and yet he has only accumulated 475 minutes of football over the course of the campaign so far.

He has started just two games in his 25 appearances and has failed to score a goal or provide an assist in that time.

Compared that to the 14 goals and 14 assists he managed in 80 games for his former side, Eintracht Frankfurt, and you can see how tough this campaign has been for him.

He is 20th in the Napoli squad in terms of minutes, and Eljif Elmas, who left for RB Leipzig in January, still has more minutes than him for the Italian club this season.

Lindstrøm has also lost his spot in the Denmark national team due to this, with his move struggling to provide any positives.

Liverpool appear to have dodged a massive bullet at this stage, and perhaps there is some regret over his decision to snub a move to Anfield, where opportunities may have been very different for him.
