Liverpool are in the mix to sign Atlanta United star Thiago Almada, according to a report this week.

The attacking midfielder has starred for the Major League Soccer side since joining them from Vélez Sarsfield in 2022. He’s scored 11 goals and registered 14 assists from 29 league games this season and that’s helped him draw attention from the Reds and other clubs including Manchester United.

That’s according to Fichajes.net, who state Liverpool have also been closely following the 22-year-old for some time.

The Merseyside club are aiming to improve their attack for next season and this is why Almada has been identified as one of their targets.

It’s claimed the Premier League side have received approval from Jürgen Klopp and could ‘consider making a bid’ to sign the Argentina international who is ‘destined for great things’.

The South American’s contract lasts until December 2025 and Fichajes.net make no mention of the fee Liverpool could consider offering the American club.

Last week, Atlanta United president Garth Lagerwey told The Athletic that the player deserves to be an MLS-record sale.

The current record is €24m which Newcastle United paid to sign Miguel Almirón from Atlanta United in 2019, meaning Liverpool may have to pay more than that to acquire Almada’s services.
