Athletic Club Bilbao’s latest star of the moment is Oihan Sancet, after the 22-year-old midfielder scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory over Cadiz.

That’s seen the youngster receive attention in the media, and will naturally also grab the attention of some clubs.

Sunday’s edition of AS reports he isn’t the only Athletic youngster with suitors, given Liverpool and Aston Villa both ‘test’ the ground for Nico Williams.

Inaki Williams’ younger brother has a €50m buyout clause, and given he plays for Athletic, it’s near certain the Basque club wouldn’t let him leave for a euro less.

Just like Sancet, Nico Williams has a contract expiring in 2024, so there’s work ahead on the renewals. AS say that despite the interest of Liverpool and Aston Villa, the player has so far been ‘loyal’ to Athletic.

Currently seventh, and with a realistic chance of qualifying for Europe, Athletic will feel they have a good chance of securing the futures of both players if they manage to achieve that goal.

Liverpool and Aston Villa will presumably be watching closely.
