Manchester United cut short Axel Tuanzebe’s loan stay at Aston Villa in January and later that month, they allowed him to join Napoli on a temporary deal until the end of the season.

The defender found it hard to enjoy more minutes with the Villans, after Steven Gerrard replaced Dean Smith at Villa Park.

In need for regular game time, he decided to join the Serie A side. Since moving to Italy, the Red Devils owned player has made two appearances, which includes a start in Napoli’s Coppa Italia defeat to Fiorentina.

Luciano Spalletti’s side and the Old Trafford club agreed a dry loan deal for the centre-back, and Napoli don’t retain an option or obligation to make the transfer permanent next summer.

That has reportedly not stopped Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli from planning to buy Tuanzebe after this season.

Italian agent Fabrizio Ferrari acted as an intermediary in bringing the United defender to the Naples club. During an interview with TMW Radio, he was asked about the possibility of Tuanzebe staying at Napoli beyond this season.

Responding to that, Ferrari said: “At the moment it is a dry loan. It will be up to Axel’s family to talk about it with the club [Napoli] and eventually find an agreement. In the meantime, let’s see how it goes [for Tuanzebe], then we will judge.”
