In need of midfield help during the January transfer window, Napoli are looking at the market, with Boubakary Soumaré, owned by Leicester City, among their targets.

The past few weeks have seen a few reports mentioning the interest of the Serie A side in the defensive midfielder, who is on loan at Sevilla, but nothing truly concrete has emerged until Monday.

The latest comes from Il Mattino, relayed by Area Napoli, who reveal that Napoli have made their first real move in their attempt to sign the Leicester City man.

It’s explained that Maurizio Micheli, their chief scout, is ‘pressing for the player’, who has already ‘said yes’ to a potential move to the south of Italy.

What is causing issues in the potential negotiations is the fact the Leicester player is loaned to Sevilla, who have the option to buy him for €15m.

Their financial situation and his nine starts in the league suggest that won’t be triggered, but it’s clear an agreement between all parties will be needed before he can move to Naples.

That’s why Il Mattino make it clear a deal is ‘not exactly a given’, especially since the Italians want the Leicester man ‘on loan’ and with an option to buy ‘at most’.
