Leeds United and Coventry City will likely be feeling sorry for themselves this summer.

The Whites were relegated from the Premier League and Coventry failed to gain promotion, losing out to Luton Town in the play-off final.

Had Coventry City won the match then their chances of keeping Viktor Gyökeres would have been given a huge boost, with the club able to offer the all-important Premier League football, and of course the financial benefits to go with it.

As it stands, the 24-year-old is on the front page of Saturday’s edition of Record. The Portuguese newspaper is reporting serious interest from Sporting, as the Lisbon club look to improve Ruben Amorim’s squad for next season.

The report says Sporting will face competition from England, with several Premier League clubs named as well as Leeds United.

Despite relegation, a situation which is directly acknowledged by Record, the Whites are thought to be in the race to sign the Coventry player.

A potential transfer fee is put at around €13m, which feels on the low side, and given the opportunities available elsewhere, including at Sporting, this would be a very difficult deal for Leeds United to pull off.
