Dutch giants Feyenoord were targeting Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson before he headed to Elland Road, according to claims in Holland. The Sweden international joined the Championship side on loan from Torino in the last transfer window.

Voetbal Zone have confirmed Feyenoord were tracking Jansson as coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst looked to strengthen his defensive options during the window.

The Swede struggled to get games with Torino after arriving in Italy, and with the change of management in the summer the defender became surplus to requirements. The Dutch side were looking to take advantage of his situation, but Leeds United won the race to sign the 25-year-old.

Jansson made his league debut for Leeds United at the weekend in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town, which leaves Garry Monk’s team 21st in the table.

Jansson is only on loan with Leeds United for the season, but last week he revealed to the Swedish media if he plays 20 games or more for the club then the move will be made permanent.
