Leeds United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa have been sending scouts to watch Villarreal this season, according to claims in Spain. Villarreal are currently lie 5th in La Liga, which has attracted clubs not only from the Championship, but also the Premier League.
It’s been reported up to ten scouts have been watching Villarreal’s home games this season, but there are no reports who Leeds United, Aston Villa or Newcastle United were watching. It’s likely the three Championship sides were looking ahead to the next transfer window, and seeing if there are any possible targets.
However, Leeds United have benefited from Villarreal in recent months after bringing in their midfielder Alfonso Pedraza on loan in the last window. Pedraza was on loan at Lugo in the second division but Leeds could have been visiting his parent club to build a relationship.
Newcastle United and Aston Villa have also recruited from Spain in recent seasons, with Rafael Benítez the obvious manager who would be looking at Spain based players.
