Two days ago, Eindhovens Dagblad stated Leeds United are among several clubs chasing PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo.

The Premier League side wanting the forward has now been discussed by multiple outlets in the Dutch press.

According to De Telegraaf, there is plenty of movement around the 23-year-old as Leeds are in the picture to sign him if Daniel James is allowed to leave. That’s about the only information shared by the newspaper about Jesse Marsch’s side.

As well as the Whites, Southampton are also trying to sign the Netherlands international.

Over at Algemeen Dagblad, they explain the Saints and Leeds ‘fight for the signature’ of the PSV star. At the same time, he has received a new contract offer from the Eredivisie side.

“I didn’t turn it down completely. That offer is still there. I haven’t made a choice yet whether or not to leave. PSV have not set a deadline. Maybe it’s not ideal for me and the club, but a decision has to be made in the next few hours,” Gakpo told ESPN, relayed by AD.

“A lot of things have happened this summer, but in the end I have to make a choice and see what is best for me. Will I just be back on the field against FC Twente on Saturday? I can’t answer that right now.”

Eindhovens Dagblad journalist Rik Elfrink came up with update stating that amid interest from Southampton and Leeds, there is ‘still no white smoke’ for the Dutchman’s sale.

PSV, for their part, want to get more than €40m for Gakpo. It needs to be seen whether they will be successful.

Gakpo scored a hat-trick in his side’s 7-1 win over FC Volendam on Wednesday and after the tie, he spoke to NOS, where he addressed the interest from Leeds and others.

“I have to make a choice. I don’t have much longer for that. Tonight or tomorrow morning, otherwise it will be too late. I only want to leave PSV under the right circumstances,” he said.

If the latest report from AD is to be believed, Gakpo has decided to continue at PSV.
