HSV Hamburg’s deadline day move for Leeds United youngster Crysencio Summerville fell by the wayside because Leeds did not have a replacement for him.

That’s according to 24 Hamburg, who provide the reasons why the ‘transfer collapsed’ despite efforts to make it happen.

They explain that Hamburg wanted to strengthen the squad for the remainder of the season, but despite ‘many names’ being discussed, only one new forward arrived.

Leeds youngster Summerville was ‘long considered’ the top target for the German club, and there was contact between Marcelo Bielsa’s side and HSV sporting director Jonas Boldt.

However, a deal could not be finalised, something that left Summerville at Elland Road and HSV ‘crawling on their toes’ due to a lack of alternatives.

The current Coronavirus situation and the lack of income from tickets mean HSV are in a ‘financial predicament’ at this moment in time.

That meant they couldn’t make ‘any big leaps’ in the transfer market, and so a youngster like Summerville was considered ‘extremely realistic’ as a target.

However, Leeds refused a deal because they had not found a ‘suitable replacement’ and HSV didn’t have the finances to try and sway their thinking with some money either.

Thus a deal didn’t happen, and Summerville stayed in England, hoping for a chance at more playing time under Bielsa between now and the end of the season.
