Leeds United’s hopes of signing Valencia defender Jesús Vázquez have been dealt a blow as the player looks set to stay in Spain.

That’s according to Radio Marca Valencia, who say the Spanish club have held talks with the youngster and ‘convinced’ him to stay.

Vázquez had been linked with a move away from the Mestalla this month after barely featuring under Gennaro Gattuso this season.

A clause in his current contract made a loan move possible, with it stating that he could seek an exit if he did not play in a certain number of minutes over a campaign.

Leeds were believed to be keen on securing his signature and fighting Inter Milan for him, but it seems they are now unlikely to get him.

Radio Marca report that they have ‘conveyed a sporting plan’ to Vázquez in the last few hours that has ‘convinced the winger to stay’.

The player want to keep working to convince Gattuso to give him more game time while the Italian coach has made it clear he wants to give him more minutes in the second half of the season.

That would seemingly put an end to a potential move to Leeds, who may now need to look elsewhere for a potential left-back.
