Fred spent five years at Manchester United before completing a permanent transfer to Fenerbahçe in the last window.

Appearing as a guest on Sözcü TV, Fenerbahçe president Ali Koç reviewed his side’s summer transfer business and his comments are relayed by Sözcü Gazetesi.

The Turkish club’s sporting director, Mário Branco, and their assistant sporting director, Okan Özkan, were able to quickly wrap up the negotiations with Manchester United for the 30-year-old after receiving an opening from the Red Devils.

This has been revealed by Koç, who has also hailed the efforts put in by two of his officials to get the deal over the line for the midfielder.

“As for Fred, we were in a meeting at my house, Mr. Selahattin is in London for another matter,” he said.

“I’m sitting with Mário and Okan. I received a phone call from England. If you want Fred, come immediately. Two hours later the plane arrived, they had neither luggage nor anything, so they jumped on the plane and went.

“They finished the job in Manchester that night. They worked very well as a team. I thank them very much. Negotiations lasted until midnight.”

The Brazil international had a year left on his deal at Old Trafford and the Istanbul club invested €9.73m to acquire his signature from Manchester United.

The South American scored 14 goals and registered 19 assists from 213 games for the Premier League side, and the EFL Cup success last season was the only trophy he won at Manchester United.

Fred has made nine appearances this season for the Yellow Canaries, managing two assists in the process.
