Following initial reports from England claiming West Ham United are interested in Pedro Gonçalves, we today covered the claims from Portugal on this chase.

Local newspapers said the Hammers are not alone in the race, and Sporting wouldn’t let the player go for less than his €80m release clause.

Not everyone in the local media believe that, though. As Mais Futebol today brings some comments from pundit Bruno Andrade, he claims West Ham may find a better deal.

The journalist recalls that Sporting had indeed been demanding the price for the release clauses back in January, but it should be a different scenario in the summer.

Andrade says he doesn’t believe Gonçalves is worth €80m, even though he likes him, and Sporting could demand something like €60m plus €10m or €20m in bonuses.

The journalist even calls out Portugal manager Roberto Martinez for not using the player for the national team, joking that he may not realise Pedro Gonçalves is Portuguese.

At the end of his comments, Andrade claims that Gonçalves is a player who’d fit the Premier League, and, ‘why not’ West Ham as well.

Featuring for Sporting this season, the winger has 15 goals and 14 assists in 39 appearances.
