Earlier this month, Jon Dahl Tomasson stepped down as Blackburn Rovers’ manager by mutual consent.

The 47-year-old, who joined the Championship side in 2022, was replaced by John Eustace at Ewood Park. After leaving Blackburn Rovers, the Dane had an opportunity to return to the bench.

That’s according to today’s Ekstra Bladet, who state Hamburger SV wanted to appoint Jon Dahl Tomasson as Tim Walter’s successor.

It’s claimed the Dane ‘politely rejected’ the possibility of entering into negotiations, and the second division German club have appointed Steffen Baumgart as their new manager.

Prior to leaving Blackburn Rovers, Jon Dahl Tomasson was in contention to become the next Sweden manager. The Blue and Yellow are yet to fill that position since Janne Andersson stepped down at the end of last year.

The former Malmö coach is still in contention, and Sweden director of football Kim Källström is very keen on appointing him.

It’s said there should be clarity on this in the next two weeks.

Sweden have two friendly fixtures against Portugal and Albania next month and will have a new manager for these matches.

Whether that’ll be Jon Dahl Tomasson or another candidate remains to be seen.
