Tottenham have been repeatedly linked with a move for Malcom, both when he was at Bordeaux and since he’s moved to Barcelona.

The French media were insistent that Spurs wanted to sign Malcom in the winter transfer window before he left for Barcelona. They tried several times in the January 2018 window and then gave up, and clinched a deal for Lucas Moura on deadline day.

Rumours continued, but in the summer market, Malcom went to Barcelona for around €40m.

That wasn’t going to kill the claims of Spurs interest, and there were several reports in the last winter window detailing efforts from the Premier League club.

In mid January, Catalan newspaper Sport reported that telephone calls were flying between Tottenham and Barcelona over a possible move for Malcom.

It was also claimed that Mauricio Pochettino could use his big friendship with Barcelona’s Ramon Planes to try and get a move across the line.

Since then, Malcom certainly hasn’t had the minutes he’ll have wanted, although he did score a goal against Real Madrid recently.

Thursday’s edition of Marca reports the Brazilian is considering his future, but Barca still believe he could be useful in the future. The club have slapped a €70m asking price on the 22 year old, which even the Spanish newspaper calls ‘exorbitant’.

Tottenham interest is referenced, but they’d be astonished by such a request and certainly not consider paying it.

It’s hard to image that if someone offered the Catalan club €50m they’d say no.
