Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been speaking to France’s SFR Sport ahead of the Merseyside derby, and the pundit’s ‘almost unspeakable secret’ was on the agenda.

Carragher will forever be associated with Liverpool and was, and remains, a favourite of the Anfield faithful, but he grew up an Everton supporter. SFR have heard this, and wanted to know if it’s true.

Asked if was an Everton fan as a little boy, Carragher explained: “Yes… shhh. Yes I was in a big family of Everton fans. It’s still the same, it’s still a big family of Everton fans, it’s very difficult to change your club. I’m sure you know that from France and everywhere, especially in Liverpool it’s very intense, the rivalry.

“Me, my two brothers, big Everton fans. We used to watch Everton play at Goodison Park, go home and away to watch Everton. We’re very passionate about football, and we started on the blue side.”

It would be assumed Carragher is backing Brendan Rodgers’ men against Everton on Saturday, but there’s surely still at least a little soft for Everton still there and that seemed to come across as the Liverpool legend was speaking.

Carragher may like to wind Everton fans up, and given that he grew up as one he probably knows which buttons to press.
