‘Indications’ Chelsea will make ‘concrete attempt’ to sign defender in January – Price will ‘not frighten’ Blues

On Thursday, Corriere dello Sport stated Chelsea are pushing the most to sign Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries in the winter market.

Dumfries is on the Blues’ agenda for next summer, but Reece James’ yet another injury setback has seen them ponder making an approach for him in January.

There are clubs who ‘rub their hands’, including Chelsea, because the Serie A side need to evaluate a sale as early as January.

That’s according to Sportitalia, who explain Todd Boehly doesn’t envisage any problems in spending on signings to help the Premier League side.

The Blues planned to take the Netherlands international after this season, but this could be brought forward for the upcoming window. with it said there are ‘indications of a concrete attempt’ from Chelsea for the 26-year-old planned for the ‘next few weeks’.

Graham Potter’s side are aware it would be difficult for Inter to ‘put up a strenuous and impossible to scratch resistance’ to retain Dumfries.

A fee of at least €60m is needed to start negotiating for the Dutchman and the figure quoted will ‘not frighten’ Chelsea.

Either way, it remains to be seen whether the English club will make an offer in January or postpone any potential negotiations to sign Dumfries for next summer.
