One of the big stories this Monday has been the one involving Ibrahima Konaté and a move to Liverpool.

First reported by The Athletic and then confirmed by L’Equipe, the news revolves around the RB Leipzig defender being close to a move to Anfield, with his €40m or so release clause potentially being triggered soon.

It’s no secret Liverpool need some centre-back help, even once Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez return, and the Frenchman would provide that.

Currently with the France U21 squad at their Euros in Hungary, the defender was asked about the rumours surrounding his future by the media, and all he could do was laugh about it.

Relayed by RMC Sport, he said: “I’m not even looking at it. I woke up. I saw my phone ring all over the place and I just wanted to tell them: ‘Oi, I’m tired. I played yesterday. Leave me alone’.

“There have been rumours with so many clubs… There’s no need to focus on that. The Euros are now, and then I return to my club”.

The Frenchman helped his country overcome Russia in a 2-0 win on Sunday thanks to goals from Jonathan Ikoné and Odsonne Edouard.

Konaté started and finished the game alongside the team’s captain, Jules Koundé.
