Paul Pogba was one of the key players for France in their 2018 World Cup success, both on and off the pitch.

Before the start of the Fifa tournament in Russia, the Manchester United midfielder didn’t enjoy a good relationship with the media whilst with the national team. He spoke at length to the press prior to his side’s final group stage clash against Denmark and it was his first press conference in four years for Les Blues.

France coach Didier Deschamps gave a detailed interview to Le Figaro and one of the questions asked to the former Juventus manager was about the 25-year-old.

The World Cup winning coach believes the advice he gave Pogba on dealing with the media has helped the player to improve his performance on the pitch.

“I told him to normalise his relationship with the press. I had discussions with him on the subject! […] I put forward arguments because I knew this situation well,” Deschamps said, as relayed by RMC Sport.

“I do not pretend to say: I changed Paul but he has been much better. Has it allowed him to be free and perform better on the pitch? I hope so.”

For Jose Mourinho’s side, the former player of the Turin club is seen changing his hairstyles regularly, but Pogba’s national team coach has stressed that he has never given the midfielder any fashion advice.

“Paul is like he is… He wanted to have a more restrained haircut, so much the better, or so much the worse, they are the ones who decide, even if I do not hesitate to tease them,” he said.
