As Jeremy Sarmiento recovers from an injury following his first few appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion, here’s a nice little story about him.

Despite being born in Spain and starting his career in England, the midfielder actually has Ecuadorian nationality and plays for the South American side.

And it turns out that in his second international game, an opponent threatened to injure him. That was told by the Brighton player in an interview with Segmento Futbol.

“Once I dribbled through one, the captain of Venezuela told me that if I continue like this he would break my legs,” said Sarmiento (via Tera Deportes).

“I took it easy, being young I don’t want my legs to be broken, but that motivates me to do silly things, skills.”

Sarmiento’s thigh injury ended up leaving him out of Ecuador’s last matches in the World Cup Qualifiers, although they managed to get draws against Brazil and Peru, and are close to guaranteeing a spot in the competition.

There’s a big chance the midfielder will be in Qatar at the end of the year.

Signed by Brighton last summer, the 19-year-old initially joined the Seagulls’ U23 side and is slowly getting minutes for the first team, with four appearances so far.
